On a Small Scale

On a small scale is a result of a neglected hidden attic I found above my studio in the Greek market in Jaffa. The attic was filled with archival materials such as documents, correspondences, and negative films from 1949-1982, when the place served as a carpentry shop held by a Romanian immigrant.

Among the carpentry tools, I found an iron instrument wrapped like a shroud which intrigued me. With the help of the photographer Avshalom Levi I created a series of photographs documenting my unveiling the instrument in a step-by-step process of peeling the wraps, until nothing is left but a space, stained with historical dust.
