This series was inspired by the apartment we moved into at the end of 2021, located on Rothschild Boulevard, in a building built in 1949 and designed by the architects Dov Karmi and Hillel Shloush. The apartment has a distinct Bauhaus style, but the building is slated for demolition, and with it a piece of history from the White City.
In this series I wish to refer to the interrelationship between the space we are in and the aesthetics we thereby create, thus drawing a line between the period of construction and the period of demolition.
In the words of George Perec in his chapter on space:
"“To try meticulously to retain something, to cause something to survive; to wrest a few precise scraps from the void as it grows, to leave somewhere a furrow, a
trace, a mark or a few signs.”
Using simple lines and breaking down an image into geometrical shapes, I created the series with the clean modern style at the base of the Bauhaus movement in mind.
